MIAMI MARINE STADIUM RESTORATION PROJECT IS NOW BECOMING CLOSER TO REALITY

21 02 2012

(NBC Miami) – Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado announced the city is getting closer to making an agreement with the Friends of Miami Marine Stadium to restore the abandoned landmark.

For years the stadium was home to powerboat races, political rallies and epic concerts. But after 1992′s Hurricane Andrew, the stadium was shut down and now, the 6,500-seat theater is currently a mess, in disrepair, and filled with graffiti and broken concrete.

$11 million are secured for the restoration, but its believed the project will run about $30 million.

The agreement between Friends of Miami Marine Stadium, the city of Miami and the Miami Sports and Exhibition Authority is expected to be discussed at a commission meeting later this month.

Architectural drawings show a newly renovated, gleaming Miami Marine Stadium that would once again host concerts and shows in a unique setting.
